Psycho

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the novel by Robert Bloch which was inspired by the crimes committed by Ed Gein. Based on the Psyche of Norman Bates, a man who killed both his mother and her lover due to jealousy. He was so guilty for killing her that he tried to erase the crime by bringing her back to life in his mind. This was done by stealing her corpse a preserving the body. This process also created another personality within Norman; he incorporated the personality of his mother as a separate part of his psyche. He acts as he believes she would, talks like her, and even dresses as she would. Because Norman was very jealous of his mother while she lived, he imagined that Mother would be equally jealous of any woman to whom he might be attracted, to the point of murdering them. Norman's psychosis protects him from (consciously) knowing about the crimes the mother figure commits, and it also prevents him from consciously knowing that his mother is long dead.


Silence of the lambs

Classical music creates a sense of seriousness.

Preparing the main character to see somebody in a cell, but unaware of what he’s capable off.
Mouth piece, string.
Lighting, becomes dark/red to show danger.
Walking down the corridor, seeing the different types of people in the cells.
Building tension as she walks.
The way HL speaks and presents himself; he does not move. Creating a sense of uneasiness.

The Shining

Eerie music/sounds in the corridor as the camera follows.
Voices from the end of the hallway.

Opening has string instruments, as the camera is high above the roads moving away from the city.

Another innocent female character.
‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’
This is to show that Jack has some kind of psychological problem.
As the woman turns the pages to find that each page contains the same piece of writing, the string music gets louder and louder.
